چکیده

An important and long-standing goal of interaction design i s to make interfaces invisible. Effective interaction design in embodied computing must map the inputs and outputs of the computational process with the qualities of the physical artifact in which it is embedded, taking into account qualities such as size, shape, texture, material, and geometry. To go beyond ad-hoc demonstration projects, style guides, pattern languages, and toolkits, a principled approach to designing embodied interaction is needed. We present in this paper a collection of physical computing projects that leverages our understanding of physicality of objects and describe principles and classifications that link them together.

Embedded Interactive Systems: Toward Everyday Environments as the Interface

Under headings such as ubiquitous, invisible and ambient computing, new approaches to human-computer interfacing are investigated that give primacy to the physical world. It is envisioned that everyday objects and architectural spaces become the interfaces to an otherwise invisible computational system. In this abstract we examine three examples that explore this vision: a wall that is also a n...

Design Principles for Desktop 3D User Interfaces - Case Movie Plaza

3D user interfaces in desktop applications are becoming more common and available to all users. However, not many guidelines are available to support desktop 3D user interface design. We derived a set of design principles from the practices of a company specialized to 3D graphics and user interfaces and made a prototype to evaluate these principles. The results of our evaluations show that some...

Moving Towards Naturalistic Interactions With Invisible Interfaces: Can “Digital Simplicity” Be Achieved?

THREE CHALLENGES OF INVISIBLE INTERFACES Past user interface design leveraged real world metaphors and the naturalistic associations of these to create what was hoped to be more easy to use technologies (e.g., file folders, the desktop, the classic trash can, now subtly renamed the more environmentally friendly “recycle bin”). Pictorial representations (icons) were intended to facilitate unders...

Principles for Human-Centred Design of IR Interfaces

Since the ‘80s, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researchers have performed a lot of work to identify principles, techniques, and methodologies that can support design, evaluation and implementation of interactive systems that fulfill needs and expectations of their users. This chapter discusses concepts, such as usability and user experience, which are of great importance for the success of in...

Design principles for interactive user experience through net art

Introduction 1. Invisible design elements 2. Collaborative participation 3. Anarchic structure 4. Non-linear communication Conclusion References (Abstract) The paper is to define interface design principles for web site design through user experiences in net art that will allow the designer to achieve truly user-centred design (UCD). Net art enables the designers to bridge the gap between tradi...
